Community Bank of Florida is pleased to announce that Brett Ekblom has been appointed to the Keys Regional Board of Directors. Mr. Ekblom is a Tavernier resident who graduated from Coral Shores High School and went on to pursue several endeavors, including earning his Commercial Pilot License, Flight Instructor License, Florida Real Estate Salesman License and his State of Florida General Contractor License. After six years in the industry, he decided to use his construction skills to form his own business, Native Construction Contracting, Inc. Although his business is now almost a decade old, Brett continues to refine his expertise, most recently earning his State of Florida Underground Utilities and Excavation Contractor License.
Brett stays busy managing projects, but always makes time to give back to his hometown. You may have seen him fundraising for college scholarships at the Island Mr. Legs Contest or Dancing with the Stars. He also lends his time as a board member of local organizations such as the Good Health Clinic and the Tavernaero Airport Property. The entire Community Bank team is excited to welcome such a dynamic new member to our Financial Family.

Community Bank of Florida is extremely proud to announce Robert Epling, CEO and President, was recently awarded an FIU Medallion. The Cal Kovens Distinguished Community Service Award was conferred by FIU President Rosenberg during the Fall Commencement exercises, held at the U.S. Century Bank Arena.
Mr. Epling was given the award based on many years spent as an active business and civic leader. During his four decades in commercial banking, he has served as president of banks in Kentucky and Florida, as well as an assistant bank examiner for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation in Washington, D.C. His experience includes more than 30 years as an agricultural lender and tropical fruits farmer.
A past president of the Florida Bankers Association and the Orange Bowl Committee, and chairman of the 1996 South Florida Olympic Soccer Organizing Committee, Epling is deeply committed to South Florida. His interests range from college football to scientific research. As chairman of the International Hurricane Research Center (IHRC) at FIU, he worked tirelessly to help further research that will mitigate damage from storms, which he witnessed firsthand as he assisted in the rebuilding efforts in Homestead after Hurricane Andrew. His dedication to the IHRC earned him the 1999 University Distinguished Service Award.
Throughout his career, the Florida Bankers Association Legends Award winner has lent his time and efforts to numerous boards and foundations. He currently is on the boards of the Dade County Farm Bureau and AVMED Health Plans.
