Community Bank Honors Top High School Graduates

    Last updated 6 years ago

The top students from five local high schools in the South Dade area, as well as their parents, were recently honored for their academic achievements at the bank’s Annual Scholastic Breakfasts.

The series began with Coral Reef Senior High School’s 11th Annual “Barracuda Award of Distinction,” which recognized the top graduating students from each of the six specialized academies at Coral Reef. The following week, students from Southridge Senior High School were honored at the 21st Annual “Spartan Award of Distinction.” The students graduating summa cum laude received a medal from the school while a slide show featured their achievements. Both events were held at the beautiful Hampton Inn Hotel in Homestead.

The following Friday, Homestead Senior High School celebrated their silver anniversary for Scholastic Breakfasts. The “25th Bronco Award of Distinction” recognized the summa cum laude of the graduating class. The school’s AFJROTC Color Guard added to the festivities by presenting the flags. Just a few days later, the 26th Annual “Buccaneer Award of Distinction” recognized the summa cum laude for South Dade High School. Last but not least, Robert Morgan Education Center held their sixth Annual “Pirate Award of Distinction.” The tradition began with Robert Morgan’s first graduating class, recognizing the summa cum laude of the graduating students. All three final events were held at The Capri Restaurant.

Vice Chairman of the Miami Dade County Public School Board, Dr. Lawrence Feldman, made the breakfasts a priority and attended nearly all of the events. At each event, he greeted the group, encouraging everyone to do their best and use their talents to make a difference. Robert L. Epling, President and CEO of Community Bank, was the guest speaker for each of the breakfasts. He spoke to the students about how choices in life can affect your future. He encouraged them to “autograph your decisions in life” and reminded them “your integrity should be guarded as the most important thing you own.” He also told the audience the story of his first year at college and how his mother helped him get through being home-sick.

As a Bank of Promise, Community Bank believes in investing in the future by investing in the children of the communities they serve. The bank is committed to helping young people reach their goals by providing support for both educational programs, as well as, extracurricular activities.
