    Last updated 2 years ago

The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus is happy to announce a concert to be held at South Dade Senior High School as part of its 2011-2012 annual Winter Tour. The concert is in collaboration with the Homestead Community Concerts Association, and made possible by the support of Community Bank of Florida, The Homestead / South Dade Kiwanis Club, Mayor Steven C. Bateman, City of Homestead, Mr. and Mrs. David Berrones, and TWN Industries.

The concert will be held on Tuesday, January 2nd, at 7:00 PM, in the auditorium of South Dade Senior High School, 28401 Southwest 167th Avenue, Homestead, FL 33030. General admission tickets will be on sale for $10 at all Community Bank of Florida branches and at the law office of John P. Maas.

About the Society of Orpheus and Bacchus: On All Hallows’ Eve in 1938, twelve of the sweetest voices at Yale converged on Mory’s Temple Bar to form an a cappella group unlike any other. This group went without a name until they capitalized on a backhanded compliment received at a party— heard above the tinkle of ice was “These SOBs are good!” These groundbreaking singers invoked the talents of Orpheus, minstrel to Olympus, and the legacy of Bacchus, god of revelry, knowing quite well that good music and good spirits are essential to the success of any party.

The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus is the second-longest-running collegiate a cappella group in the nation. They have an enormous repertoire spanning more than seven decades that includes traditional, jazz, blues, rock and roll, and original compositions. They also inject a healthy dose of comedy into performances to make each concert engaging and unique. They have brought their unique blend of showmanship all around the nation and the globe: from the White House to the shores of Aruba to Cityplaza in Hong Kong. If you’d like more information about The Society of Orpheus and Bacchus’ tour to South Florida, or are interested in scheduling a performance, please contact Jonny Barclay at 203-285-9649 or e-mail Jonny at jonathan.barclay@yale.edu.

    SPOTLIGHT on Value Place Lodging

    Last updated 2 years ago

We recently spoke to Sylvia Bernstein, one of the owners of Value Place Lodging in Homestead. She took us on a tour of the facility and told us all about her relationship with the bank. Here's what she had to say in her interview:

“Value Place is a special kind of lodge. Our guests are here for an extended amount of time, with the typical stay around 3 months. Some guests have been here over a year due to the line of work they are in. We really get to know our guests and our lodge becomes a “home away from home” for them.  It is important to us that our guests are comfortable, safe and relaxed. That’s why we have a secured entry, a full service generator on-site and the building is safe for a category 5 hurricane. We have a friendly and attentive staff. Each studio has cable, internet availability and a kitchenette with a full size fridge.

We’ve been open for over two years, and our banker Julie has been a huge help getting us acquainted with the area. She is always sending us prospects and understands we want to be part of the community, so she has introduced us to local business owners, and given us opportunities to partner with civic organizations. We’ve dealt with many bankers before, but none like Julie Romero. She’s amazing, always on top of our requests and she always follows up.  She puts the community in Community Bank and we feel we are in the best hands ever!”

Value Place Lodging is located at 2750 NE 8th Street, Homestead, Fl. For more information, call (305) 245-5000.

Community Bank of Florida Donates to Student Operation Smile Club

    Last updated 2 years ago

CBF is proud to support the Westminster Christian School’s Operation Smile Club. The students are holding a Charity Walk fundraising event at Baptist Hospital on December 4th at 10:00am to benefit Operation Smile. There will be many exciting raffle items, including an iPod.

Operation Smile is an international children's medical charity that heals children's smiles, forever changing their lives. They are a mobilized force of medical professionals and caring hearts that provide safe, effective reconstructive surgery for children born with facial deformities such as cleft lip and cleft palate. Every three minutes a child is born with a cleft; often unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected. In many cases, their parents can't afford to give them the surgeries they need to live a normal life. Since 1982, Operation Smile, with the help of dedicated medical volunteers in over 60 countries, has provided more than 2 million patient evaluations and over 200,000 free surgeries for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.

The Westminster Operation Smile Student Club was formed by Madison Lupino, Michelle Diaz and other fellow students. Madison is a senior at Westminster and plans to major in psychology in college and eventually work with children. When she learned about Operation Smile, she felt the need to help the organization and the club was born. Now it is one of the largest clubs in the school. Madison thanks all the generous donors who have come on board to help this worthy cause.

    SPOTLIGHT on Lazy Days Restaurant

    Last updated 3 years ago

We recently sat down with Chef Lupe & Michelle Ledesma, the owners of Lazy Days restaurant in Islamorada to interview them for a testimonial ad. Chef Lupe told us their story of falling in love with each other and the restaurant business:

“My wife and I have been in the restaurant business since we were teenagers. We met while working together at the same restaurant in Key Largo, fell in love and eventually married. We started running our own restaurant and nine years ago, we took over the Lazy Days Restaurant.

Recently, we decided to refinance the business, but our bank was unable to help us. Our friend Sam Nekhaila told us he was on the Keys Board at Community Bank and that they could help. He introduced us to Carlos and from day one, Carlos found us solutions. His hard work got us approved for a Small Business Administration loan and we couldn’t be happier!”

Visit their website to see the full menu at: www.lazydaysrestaurant.com or visit them at Mile Marker 79, Oceanside to taste their award winning food. Reservations recommended: (305) 664-5256.
