Both of her children are currently in college and she has decided to set an example for them by pursuing her Bachelor’s degree. She was born in England, and currently lives in the Miami area. She and her husband Paul jokingly refer to their rescue dogs Abbey and Arabella as their “four legged children.” They are active supporters of the Humane Society and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). SPOTLIGHT ON: Plantation Boat Mart

    Last updated 2 years ago

One day while in Tavernier, we stopped at Plantation Boat Mart & Marina to meet with the De La Torre family. The father, Elias II, started the business 16 years ago and now all his adult children, Elias III,  Leslie and Dennis, manage the day to day operations. We asked Elias III to tell us more about how they became part of our financial family:

“My father met Bob Epling over 30 years ago when our family was in the Avocado business. In 1996 we moved to the Keys and decided to open Plantation Boat Mart. We called Bob, and within 10 minutes we had what we needed to get us started. Once our business was running, we told him all we needed were branches in the Keys and within a few years, they opened two.

We’ve had other banks try to persuade us to move our accounts, with promises of better deals, but we decline because of the relationship we have with Community Bank. We remember those who helped us and are loyal to people we can count on."

Stop by and see their amazing showroom and large selection of boats at 90400 Overseas Highway in Tavernier, or visit their website at www.plantationboat.com

CBF is proud to celebrate Linda Gaunaurd’s 5th Anniversary as a member of our Financial Family. Mrs. Gaunaurd is currently an Administrative Assistant in the Key Largo Financial Center. Her main job duties include assisting loan customers with closings, payments and documents. She was previously a small business owner and has maintained her Real Estate Broker’s license since 2002. Once she became a banker she decided to expand her lending knowledge and recently earned a certificate of completion for Commercial Lending.

Mrs. Gaunaurd was born and raised in Miami and has owned a home in Key Largo since 1981. She and her husband Manny decided to make it their permanent home almost 20 years ago. Since their children are grown and Manny has retired, they decided to take on a new adventure and began to show and breed Rhodesian Ridgebacks. Enthusiastic about her anniversary, Linda stated, “I enjoy my job; this is a wonderful place to work. Everyone is a team player and willing to help where needed.”

    CBF Supports "Swim for Jenny"

    Last updated 2 years ago

Jenny Nyugen was loved by many at Keys Gate Charter School, where she almost completed the sixth grade as an honor roll student in the gifted program. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, 12-year old Jenny was a longtime resident of Homestead. On April 16th, 2011, Jenny tragically lost her life when she went into water too deep for her limited swimming ability and was not able to make it out on her own.

The “Swim for Jenny” Memorial Fund was established in Jenny’s honor to provide children in South Florida the opportunity to attend learn-to-swim classes at their local park for free, thus helping to prevent another tragedy such as this from happening in the future to another child.

Nationally, drowning is the second-leading cause of injury-related death among children ages 1 to 14.  Florida has the second highest number of drowning incidents in the U.S. and Miami-Dade County leads the state in drowning deaths with an average of 45 a year.

You can make a difference in a child's life by donating to the “Swim for Jenny” Memorial Fund.  Donations will be used to provide scholarships to learn-to-swim courses throughout Miami-Dade County keeping children safe in South Florida. Learn-to-Swim lessons will educate children and their parents in water safety, swim technique and drowning prevention. For as little as $30, you can fund two weeks of swimming lessons for a single child.

For more information or to make a donation, please visit www.swimforjenny.org.  Save a life, teach a child to swim, keep Jenny's memory alive.
