CBF is pleased to celebrate Susan Carter’s 10th Anniversary as a member of our Financial Family! Susan is the long time manager of our Haines City Office, where she has built a close relationship with both her customers and her staff. Susan is a Haines City native and enjoys volunteering in the local Chamber of Commerce, as well as serving as a Board Member of Adopt a Nursing Home. Susan states, “I have seen a lot of change and growth in Haines City over the years, and love the home town feeling of living here. There are not many places that you go in town that you don’t run into someone you know… I like that! Working for our office located in the Super Wal-Mart gives me a great opportunity to meet a lot of people in the community. Stop by and see us and let us “Exceed Your Expectations!”

What should you know about your CREDIT?

Part 1 of a series of useful info from our Consumer Loan Guru, Ray Schantz

Why is it important to be aware of your credit score?

Credit scores are used to determine if you are “credit worthy” and how much interest you should pay. A low score can make you pay more for new credit, or pay more on the credit you already have. For example, you might end up with a higher interest rate on a credit card, or car loan, which means you end up paying more in the long run.

A low credit score might also mean you pay more for insurance; you might get denied for a job or denied by a landlord for that new apartment you’re looking to move into. Most employers and rental companies will do a credit check before approving you. Being aware of your credit is also a way to be alerted to identity theft.

So what exactly is a credit score?

It’s also known as a FICO score (Fair Isaac & Company) which is used by the major credit bureau Trans Union. A FICO is just a number given to you based on your credit report, ranging from 300 to 850.

There are other rating systems in addition to the FICO score, including a Vantage Score (used by the credit bureau Experian) and the Beacon Score (used by the credit bureaus Equifax and Experian). The Vantage Score ranges from 501-990, so your score will be higher from Vantage than Beacon or Equifax.

The point is not which system you check, the point is to try to keep your score up. The higher your score, the less of a risk you are considered and the better your interest rate will be.

    Welcome Ellison Powell

CBF is excited to announce that Ellison Powell has joined the team as a Vice President. Ellison will oversee the credit risk department, implementing loan policies and ensuring the quality of the bank’s loans. His 40 years of banking has given him a strong background in lending, financial analysis, underwriting skills and extensive managerial experience. His job may be a serious one, but Ellison's cheerful and good-natured attitude are a pleasant contrast.

Ellison was born in Cleveland, Ohio, but comes to us from a bank in Easley, South Carolina. He and his wife were happy to relocate to the Miami area and be near one of their two adult children. Excited to join the team, Ellison expressed, “I was attracted to Community Bank because of their commitment to customer service and local decision making.”

They enjoy returning to their home country periodically, to spend quality time with their elderly parents who are both alive and doing very well at age 88. Aside from traveling, Gillian also enjoys volunteering with her church, and as a jogger and all around sports fanatic, she makes sure to participate on the bank’s annual Mercedes Benz 5K Charity Corporate Run team.

Excited about her anniversary, Gillian stated, “Community bank gives me the opportunity of a great quality of life and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family.
