Congratulations to Teena Borek for being named Agriculturalist of the Year by the Homestead/Florida City Chamber of Commerce! Teena was honored for her cutting edge farming techniques, including being the first farmer in Dade County to use a linear irrigation system, as well as the first to use a computer in her work. Teena gave a shout out to CBF, since "they bought those Macintoshes way back when!"
She was also honored for her extensive community involvement and efforts to bring tourism to the area. She is an advocate of buying local products and reminded us all during her speech that if you ask your grocer to carry local produce, they will more than likely listen. Let's all go to our grocery store and ask why the fresh fruits and veggies are coming from other countries instead of from our local farmers.
In addition to receiving a beautiful trophy, Teena was given proclamations from the City of Homestead, the City of Florida City and Miami Dade County. They all proclaimed Thursday, March 22, 2012 as Martina "Teena" Borek Day!
